Imagination

J’s imagination is awesome. I love hearing him play with his imaginary friends. While my mind is racing with emails, texts, blogs and vmails, my son can keep his mind occupied for hours with make believe stories. And, I stop whatever I am doing and make sure to take the time to eavesdrop on his creative tales.

And here is the little one laughing. Yes! He laughs now.

Trains, Trains and Trains

"J" introduced "L" to trains this past weekend. There really is nothing more exciting then the sounds of a choo choo train to my son's ears.

And now I am so zonked that I shall retreat to my cozy, comfy, lovely bed. We just got new pillows and I think I hear all five of them calling my name.

Good night.

The Giving Tree

August 1, 2009
Did you read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein? My husband read the book to “J” at bedtime today and I walked in with “L” while they were reading. I had forgotten about that book, but when I looked down at the story and heard the words, I immediately welled up. That might the saddest and yet most beautiful book ever written. I told my husband that was one of my favorite books and he said that the book was dedicated to me in the beginning from my mom. And so it was : To Eva December 1981. And I swear that book smelled like the house that I grew up in on the beach. My husband asked “J” if he thought the book made him feel happy or sad. He replied, “Happy!”. I’m just happy that Mr. Shel Silverstein is still a part of my reading world and that now it is a part of “J’s”
On a side photography note, I was going to share three pictures, but my computer is out to get me and being moody. So I am only downloading one and then I am going to BACK up my pictures and defragment. I have been wanting a MAC for some time now and this might finally be the time when I make a switch.

Look What I Made

As a woman I have always tried to stay healthy with diet and exercise. Not to blow my own horn, but before “J” was born I ran five marathons. But, now between work, 2 kids, a husband and a lack of ambition I find myself never exercising. I find I deserve a pat on the back if I don’t bury my head in a bag of potato chips or some good milk chocolate. As I approach the 6 week post delivery date I know I must begin to exercise again. I need to show a good example to my kids. I also know that exercise makes me feel good both physically and emotionally. So, I should really go out and run again for ME. Yes, here I go. Tomorrow. First thing. In the meantime—look what I made! I still am in awe that this little, adorable, kissable boy is something I made, with the help of my husband.

Slowing it Down

Sometimes I become easily irritated by small things that I forget to look at what I have and be thankful. Cliché? Maybe, but very true. And today when “J” came home from summer camp and “L” had a nice little snack I thought to myself….life is good. And yes I got all warm and giddy inside when I took this picture.

Brothers

I’m really amazed with “J”. He seems to have taken to being a big brother as the best thing in the world. He adores Baby “L” and gives him kisses and hugs and shares his toys with him. Baby “L” learns about James and Thomas and Sir Topham Hat via his big brother. (For those without kids, those are the names of a very special train family)
And Baby “L” seems to love his big brother! He lights up when he hears his voice and at 4 weeks old is already showing signs of wanting to crawl. I may be exaggerating here, but when I give him tummy time—he tries to scoot.
So now that I am a mom of two for 4 whole weeks, I have decided it’s easier. It’s not so shocking and the rules are not so rigid. Poor Baby “L” hasn’t had a book read to him yet! I realized this the other day and was shocked. I started reading to “J” at 3 days old everyday. Well, tonight I will start. And I will read him “J’s” favorite at this moment: The Caboose Who Got Loose.

Summertime

I love summer. I love hearing people swim in a pool. I love going to the beach. I love eating BBQ outside. I love that the sun sets late. During the summer months, anything seems possible to me. I feel I can start/finish anything. It’s like New Year’s in July.

My friends and I play volleyball at the beach. We started when we were single and fresh out of college and now X amount of years later we still go. And although the dynamic of the group has changed a bit, it’s still the highlight of my summer.

Here is “C”, a dear friend of my son. She’s sweet, smart and is probably going to break “J’s” heart one day.
